My name is Melody, and I've been making curtains, blinds and soft furnishings since 1992, Originally starting in Huddersfield, I then ventured in West Yorkshire and then the North East from 2012.
Over three decades, I've worked with period properties, new-builds, stone cottages and city apartments, grand bay windows, custom architectural windows and awkward little corners that seemed impossible until the right solution was found. Most of my work remains local to Huddersfield and Newcastle upon Tyne, but I have also taken on long-distance projects for clients in London, Edinburgh and beyond, as well as specialist commissions that needed deep research and particular care.
The settings change, but the aim stays the same: to help rooms feel softer, warmer, and more like home.
Way back in the day, I originally trained as a couturier, creating hand sewn garments from the finest fabrics. That background still shapes how I approach curtain making today. It taught me patience and meticulous attention to detail, along with a deep respect for how materials behave, flow and come to rest. I think carefully about colour, texture, and weight, how a fabric drapes, how it catches the light, and how all the elements come together to create something that feels balanced, considered, and elevates the room as a whole.
Every home and every client is different. I ask questions and listen carefully before suggesting fabrics or styles. Your curtains should reflect how you live, not how I think you should.
Traditional making methods, careful interlining, pattern matching and hand-finishing, these are the details that help curtains hang beautifully and age gracefully. I don't cut corners because the shortcuts always show eventually.
A home visit should feel relaxed. There's space to think, to ask questions, to consider options without pressure. Choosing curtains is a decision you'll live with for years, it deserves time and thought.
